GHOST CONSULTANTS IN PARLIAMENT

BY: GIBRILLA KAMARA

Opposition Member of Parliament, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara, has strongly criticized the government of President Julius Maada Bio, citing endemic corruption, official incompetence, and egregious broken promises.

The opposition MP made the criticism during an interview on radio Africa Young Voices (AYV), Sunday, 5 October, 2025, where the MP commonly called AKK, also raised serious concern about what he cited as the existence of 25 ghost consultant workers in Parliament, calling it “deep-rooted corruption”, and a waste of national resources in government institutions.

According to Hon AKK, the names, roles and contributions of the 25 consultants remain covered, unknown and unseen despite they are paid every month from the state coffers. He, therefore, urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to immediately launch an investigation into this issue and bring those culpable to book.

The strong opposition MP lambasted President Bio for his frequent international travels, noting how such have always created a leadership vacuum in country. He also bashed at Bio for not allowing his vice president to represent him in a single cabinet meeting ever since assuming state governance.

Hon. AKK accused President Bio of failing to properly tackle the alarming use of the synthetic drug kush in the country, noting the reduction of budget for the National Drug Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA) from two Billion Leones (NLe 2,000,000,000) to one Billion Leones (NLe 1,000, 000, 000) further shows an inadequate gravity in the fight against the drug curse in the country.

According to him, NDLEA doesn’t even have a bicycle, let alone a motorbike, as means of mobility in the execution of their mandate.
“How can the institution combat the proliferation of drugs in the country?” the MP queried.
Hon AKK commented on the allegations soaring over the president about the protection of Jos Leijddekers, the wanted Dutch international drug lord, moreso, his daughter’s relationship with him.
The opposition MP said he remains highly disappointed that someone photographed a number of times with the first family on diverse occasions would be shielded from extradition even though it is a slap and threat to not just our national but global security.
He recalled how an international journalist who ventured to expose the whereabouts of Jos Leijddekers aka Umaru Sherrif was arrested, with her gadgets allegedly confiscated, while her documentaries, including footages were destroyed.
“That journalists was a whistle-blower, and locking her up at CID is a violation of the anti corruption commission ( ACC) act. This government is killing accountability,” Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara noted.
