NatCA, MNOs Reach Agreement to Restore Consumer-Friendly Data Plans

Following recent adjustments to mobile data tariff plans by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), the National Communications Authority (NatCA) has announced a collaborative resolution to restore a wider range of data options in response to public concern.

The revised plans, which had triggered consumer feedback around affordability and limited choices, prompted engagements between NatCA and the operators. After constructive dialogue, MNOs have agreed to reverse the recent changes, with the restoration of previous data offerings set to take effect on Thursday, 23rd May 2025.

While the operators cited operational and market pressures behind the initial adjustments, NatCA emphasized the need to maintain affordability and consumer choice in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. “NatCA has engaged the operators and asked them to reverse the changes, ensuring continued availability of diverse options,” the regulatory body stated.

NatCA also acknowledged the challenges facing MNOs as they work to improve service delivery in a competitive environment. The Authority reiterated its commitment to working alongside telecom providers to develop sustainable, innovative data solutions that reflect both consumer needs and industry realities.

“NatCA will continue to work with MNOs to foster improved data plans that align with user demands and market standards,” the release added, affirming its role in promoting a fair, transparent, and balanced telecommunications sector.

Consumers can expect restored access to more flexible and affordable data bundles starting 23rd May 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure inclusive digital connectivity across Sierra Leone.
