The leading terminal operator at the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, Africa Global Logistics (AGL), has expanded its community development efforts to Sanda Taindaren Chiefdom in Karene District with the official opening of a new primary school in Menthagba Community on 15 May 2026.
The newly established Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL) Primary School was unveiled during a well-attended ceremony that brought together government officials, community stakeholders, parents, pupils, and representatives of Africa Global Logistics. The initiative is widely being hailed as a major boost to education in the chiefdom and a significant investment in the future of children in the area.
Delivering an overview of the project, the Coordinator, Mr. Stanley Bangura, explained that the construction and completion of the school had faced several challenges over the past year. Despite those difficulties, he said, sustained collaboration between Freetown Terminal Limited and its parent company, Africa Global Logistics, ensured the successful completion of the project.
Mr. Bangura noted that the opening of the school marks a new chapter for Menthagba Community and demonstrates AGL’s continued commitment to supporting education and community development in Sierra Leone. He emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s broader educational aspirations under President Julius Maada Bio’s human capital development agenda.
Pupils of the newly opened school expressed deep appreciation to Africa Global Logistics and the project team for making their educational dreams a reality. Speaking emotionally during the ceremony, pupil Santigie Sesay thanked Mr. Stanley Bangura and Freetown Terminal Limited for their dedication to improving access to education in the community.
“Our pencils were empty; today they are full,” Santigie declared, drawing applause from the audience.
The Resident Minister for the North-East Region, Mr. Ibrahim Jalloh, served as the keynote speaker at the event. In his address, he praised the community-driven approach adopted in establishing the school and described the initiative as a symbol of hope and progress for Menthagba Village.
He commended Africa Global Logistics, donors, and partners for transforming “hope into classrooms” and reaffirming their belief in the future of children in rural communities. The minister also urged teachers to remain committed, disciplined, and dedicated in delivering quality education to the pupils.
Describing teachers as “nation builders,” Mr. Jalloh stressed the important role educators play in shaping the future of the country. He further encouraged parents and community members to actively support the success of the school by protecting its facilities and participating fully in Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) activities.
The minister also encouraged pupils to remain focused on their education and dream beyond their rural background, reminding them that education remains a vital pathway to personal success and national development.
Representing Africa Global Logistics, Capt. Fabjanko Kokan thanked community members and guests for joining the celebration of what he described as a long-held dream aimed at creating a sanctuary for knowledge, creativity, and character development.
Capt. Kokan expressed special appreciation to Mr. Stanley Bangura for his commitment and contribution toward the successful completion of the project. He emphasized that the mission of the FTL School is to empower children to think critically, act responsibly, and innovate for the future.
According to him, the institution seeks to combine quality education with personal development in order to raise compassionate, responsible, and successful future leaders. Addressing the pupils directly, he urged them to preserve and protect the school for future generations.
“Education is the most powerful tool to shape your future and make a difference — not only in Mama Salone, but in Africa and the world,” Capt. Kokan stated.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by pupil Lamin Munu, who expressed gratitude to Africa Global Logistics and Mr. Stanley Bangura for their immense contributions toward strengthening education in the chiefdom.
