The Acting Chairman of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress (APC), Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, has officially confirmed that nineteen (19) individuals have so far declared their intention to contest for the coveted flagbearer position of the party ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 National Delegates’ Conference.
Among this diverse group of aspirants, one name that continues to stand out is “Dr. Ibrahim Bangura”, a rising political figure who has captivated both grassroots supporters and seasoned political veterans alike. His entrance into the race has sparked fresh optimism, particularly among the youth and indeterminate electorate, many of whom regard him as a beacon of hope and a symbol of generational transition in Sierra Leone’s political leadership.
As the APC positions itself to challenge for state power in the coming elections, the emergence of aspirants like Dr. Ibrahim Bangura marks a critical moment in the party’s internal democratic process—one that could set the tone for generational renewal, inclusive politics, and a dynamic opposition that speaks to the future.
While the race is still wide open and competitive, many eyes are now watching Dr. Bangura—not just for what he promises, but for the unique space he occupies as a young, energetic, and visionary leader whose time, many believe, may have come.
At present, Dr. Bangura is the youngest among all declared contenders, but his relative youth is no barrier to the growing wave of admiration he continues to garner. On the contrary, it is this blend of youthful energy, intellectual sharpness, and an unblemished socio-political track record that has made him a formidable contender.
His campaign slogan “Build, Heal and Unite” has resonated deeply across party lines. Supporters view it not as mere rhetoric, but as a clear vision to steer both party and country toward a more inclusive, transparent, and development-driven future. He has made it clear that his ambition is not just to secure the APC flag, but to redefine leadership with values grounded in unity, service, and progress.
Known for his hardworking nature and charismatic presence, Dr. Bangura is rapidly becoming a household name. His engagements across the country reflect a rare combination of approachability and visionary thinking, drawing admiration from both the elderly who seek stability and the youth who yearn for change. Community leaders, first-time voters, and even traditional APC loyalists have begun rallying around his candidacy, inspired by what many are calling a refreshing new voice within the party.
