The Proprietor of Besto Trading on Free Street in Freetown, Mr. Abass Huballah, has issued a clarification through his media team following recent reports circulating in sections of the media on 13th March 2026 concerning his business operations. In a statement made available to the press, the Besto Trading Chief addressed claims linking him to alleged irregularities involving the importation and clearance of eight containers of frozen chicken, along with an additional seven containers said to be connected to the transaction.According to the statement, the reports suggested that there were outstanding payments to suppliers and complications relating to the clearance of the containers, including issues surrounding demurrage and other port-related charges. However, Mr. Huballah’s media team explained that the claims do not accurately reflect the full circumstances of the transaction. The statement indicated that verified documentation confirms that all payments connected to the supply of frozen chicken and other goods were fully settled by the investors and suppliers involved. It further clarified that any delays experienced during the process were linked to temporary challenges in accessing United States dollars for foreign exchange transfers, a situation the statement described as common in international commercial transactions. The clarification also noted that matters relating to container clearance, demurrage, and other port procedures were handled within the appropriate timeframe. According to the statement, supporting documentation exists and can be presented to the relevant authorities whenever necessary.Mr. Huballah’s media team emphasized that he has built his reputation over many years of legitimate and responsible business engagement within Sierra Leone’s commercial sector. The statement also highlighted that Mr. Huballah comes from a respected business family in the country. He is the son of Pa Huballah, proprietor of the Besto Foam Factory in Calabatown, and the brother of Mr. Hassan Huballah. The family, the statement noted, has long been recognized for its contributions to business development and its commitment to lawful commercial practices. The media team further encouraged responsible and balanced reporting in line with the provisions of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) Act, the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, and the Code of Ethics of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), which promote fairness, accuracy, and verification in media practice.Members of the public have therefore been urged to consider the clarification as part of efforts to provide additional context regarding the matter.
