As he Calls for Unity Within APC…
Dr Ibrahim Bangura Pledges Support for MPOX Awareness Campaign

In a passionate statement released this week, All Peoples Congress (APC) leadership aspirant Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has called on party members to put unity above personal ambition and work together to confront national challenges, including the rising cases of Monkeypox (MPOX) across the country.
Dr. Bangura, a long-standing member of the APC, addressed what he described as “a growing wave of internal tension” within the party, cautioning that disunity threatens to derail the APC’s ability to effectively serve as a viable opposition and future government.
“This is not the time for discord or division,” he said. “This is the time for us to stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and remember that our common enemy is not within our ranks, but the numerous challenges facing the people of Sierra Leone.”
While reaffirming his intention to seek the party’s leadership, Dr. Bangura emphasized that competition should not breed hostility but rather “foster innovation, vision, and mutual respect.” He urged his fellow aspirants and supporters to prioritize constructive dialogue and collective action over internal rivalry.
“The people are watching. Our supporters are waiting. Sierra Leone deserves a cohesive, visionary, and disciplined opposition ready to lead with integrity and purpose,” he added.
Beyond politics, Dr. Bangura also used the opportunity to raise alarm over the recent surge in Monkeypox infections in Sierra Leone, describing it as a pressing national concern that demands urgent attention.
He announced plans to provide financial support to the APC to initiate a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at increasing public awareness and promoting prevention strategies for MPOX.
“This campaign will focus on community education and prevention strategies,” he said, calling on party members, civil society organizations, and all citizens of goodwill to join the fight against the virus. “We cannot stand idly by while communities suffer due to limited awareness and inadequate response measures.”
Dr. Bangura concluded his statement with a powerful appeal for collaboration and service.
“Together, we can heal, unite, and build. Let us come together for a stronger APC and a healthier Sierra Leone.”
His remarks come amid growing calls for the APC to maintain internal cohesion and reassert its role as a credible opposition force ahead of upcoming political transitions.
